Piercy Blames It On Jet Lag For Bad Start

Scott Piercy is still feeling the effects of jet lag in his first trip to Asia but it did not stop him from stamping his mark with a nine-under 62 on the final day of the CIMB Classic at Mines Resort and Golf Club yesterday.

Piercy, who opened with a disappointing 75 and was tied for last place following the first round, pushed himself to a share of 10th place with his course record tying final round score.

Piercy went right back out to the driving range on Thursday despite the high humidity. And his hard work paid off as he battled back with improving scores each day.

Piercy shot 68 and 64 in the second and third rounds respectively.

His bogey free round yesterday moved him into the top 10 at 15-under.

Piercy admitted he was not hitting the ball well that day but suggested that travelling overseas for the first time in his life and learning to deal with the effects of jet lag might have had something to do with his four-over score in the first round.

“I had a little trouble trying to figure out what my body was feeling. I woke up in the morning and the clock says 8 in the morning but my body felt like it was 5 at night,” said Piercy, who won the RBC Canadian Open earlier this year.

“I figured something out in my swing that helped and as the week went along it got better.”
