Las Vegas, Nevada (November 5, 2012)–Willy Wonka had the Golden Ticket, and according to Las Vegas Golf Region native and current resident Scott Piercy, PGA Tour players have their own version. Piercy has played well in 2012 and finished T2 at the HSBC Champions in China over the weekend. With the finish, Piercy solidified his standing among the Top 50 (41st) in the World Golf Rankings. “That Top‑50 number in the world is kind of a golden number, and I’m just really glad that my game is coming around and kind of where I think it should be,” said Piercy. –By Brian Hurlburt
“My goal this year was to get into the Top‑50 in the world,” Piercy told the media following his final round. “Starting the week, I was 44th in the world, and obviously I can only really go up from there finishing where I did. … It was a good week. I found something last week in Malaysia and it carried over into this week … it started Friday afternoon of last week on the back nine. I played well from there, and just brought it all the way here and made a few putts coming down the stretch which were big. I’m just really excited to be here.”

Piercy is now one spot behind fellow Las Vegas Golf Region resident Ryan Moore in the World Golf Rankings. Both Moore and Piercy are sponsored by Las Vegas company Shift 4. The duo combined to help raise more than $75,000 for the Shriners Hospitals for Children via the Birdies4Shriners campaign spearheaded by Shift4. Moore won the 2012 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
Piercy’s reference to being Top 50 in the world as a “Golden Ticket” refers to the fact that players in the Top 50 in the world qualify for the majors and World Golf Championships events, and can basically plan their schedule from start to finish for the next year. And it gives Piercy peace of mind during the off season and allows him to rest up for the 2013 campaign. “I’m shutting it down the rest of the year,” Piercy said. “I figured I could play hard for two weeks and then I’ve got some time off till January. Looking forward to it. I feel good with my game, and it’s nice to go finish the year off this way.”
